2012 will be over in a day and a half. The year really flew by! I had a great year, and I’m excited that I got two stories published. I’ll try to beat that record in 2013 (and there are novels in my future, I don’t doubt it).
2012 was a great year for GLBT issues and anyone concerned about them in the USA. Marriage equality won at the ballot, and quite a few new out politicians were elected to local, state and federal offices. There were a lot of notable people who came out — this wonderful article on Towleroad gives a great rundown.
In addition, as someone who writes erotica I really feel 2012 was a great year for erotica. I haven’t read 50 Shades of Grey and I’m sure some of the criticism of it is warranted. But a book that gets people — especially women — exploring and expanding their erotic imaginations is a great thing. The popularity of Shades shows there was an unfilled niche for erotica and it will inspire some of its readers to keep looking for more erotica, for other types of erotica, and to experiment and educate themselves about the varieties of sexual practices. Hopefully this is a turning point and many other erotica books will become bestsellers in the years to come.
Happy New Year to all! Check back soon for more on my publication schedule for 2013.
P.S. Here is a list of the Top Five Bisexual News Stories of 2012 for you also. Sadly, they don’t feature erotica (but we can work on that for next year ;-).
